Pediatrician and Healthcare Professionals Training to Help Teens Make Healthy Decisions: A YESCCC/PACT and Northwell Health Collaboration

YES Community Counseling Center’s Partnering In Action and Change For Tomorrow (PACT) Grant Initiative and Northwell Health invite Nassau County pediatricians to attend its upcoming virtual education program Exploring the Value of Addressing Substance Use for Today’s Pediatricians.  The virtual program, featuring Sandeep Kapoor, MD and David Gregory Fagan, MD of Northwell Health, will be held virtually on Tuesday, October 19th from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Please note new date of program.

From COVID – 19 to underage drinking and substance use, today’s youth and young adults face a multitude of health risks that will impact their lives, families and our communities. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) views pediatric care providers playing a critical, ongoing role in the lives of their adolescent patients and have a unique opportunity to educate them about the dangers of substance use and to influence their behaviors. The pediatrician training will review how evidence-based tools, timely intervention, and access to resources can improve the health and lives of their pediatric patients. It is part of an ongoing educational series to provide pediatricians with tools to ensure their patients experience a healthy adolescence and young adulthood. To register for the training, go to https://redcap.link/supeds or contact PACT at 516-799-3203 x230 for more information.

YES Community Counseling Center’s PACT SPF-PFS Grant Initiative is funded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. PACT addresses our nation’s top substance abuse prevention priorities among persons aged 9-20 – underage drinking, marijuana, and opioid use. PACT seeks to understand patterns of youth and young adult underage drinking and substance use and implement targeted evidence-based programs, policies, trainings and education to change the conditions by which youth substance use exists.
