YES Community Counseling Center’s Partnering in Action Change for Tomorrow (PACT) Initiative is offering Opioid Education and Naloxone Trainings in commemoration of Overdose Awareness Day, celebrated on August 31, 2023. The events are also partnered with Levittown Community Action Coalition (LCAC), Massapequa Elks Lodge #2162 and Massapequa Takes Action Coalition (MTAC):
On Wednesday, August 31, 2022, National Overdose Awareness Day, a Lights of Hope Remembrance Ceremony will be held to honor loved ones we have lost to substance use overdose. The ceremony will be held at 7:00 pm at YES Community Counseling Center 152 Center Lane Levittown, NY. Participants are asked to bring a framed photo of their loved one to remember and honor.
According to the Center for Disease Control, since COVID, there has been an increase in opioid overdose deaths with the number of deaths reaching over 100,000 in the United States. Nassau County Police report an increase in the number of opioid overdose death from 140 in 2019 to 223 in 2020. Now more than ever Opioid Education and Naloxone Training is necessary to save the lives of our community members struggling with addiction.
