PACT’s Partners Educate Towns to OPT-OUT: Protect our Children & Community

In an effort to ensure the health and safety of our communities and children, YES Community Counseling Center’s PACT Initiative works with the Nassau County Council of School Superintendents, PACT Superintendents of Schools, Levittown Community Action Coalition as well as Massapequa Takes Action Coalition to help educate policy makers regarding the value of OPTING OUT of New York’s Adult Cannabis Retail Dispensaries & On-site Consumption sites.

In its first effort to engage all its partners in our mission, on December 7th, the Towns of Hempstead and Oyster Bay voted 7 – 0 to OPT-OUT of New York State’s adult-use cannabis retail dispensaries and on-site consumption businesses in its unincorporated areas. Dr. Toni McDonald, Superintendent, Levittown Public Schools; NCCSS President; Paul Defendini, Superintendent, Farmingdale Public Schools, and NCCSS Southeast Quadrant Leader; Brian Conboy, Interim Superintendent, Massapequa Public Schools; and Dave Schneider, Superintendent Bethpage Union Free School District, delivered powerful messages to both Town Boards regarding why OPTING-OUT protects our children’s and community’s health and safety. PACT encourages all residents and community members to visit New York State’s Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) website to keep apprised of upcoming OCM meetings where new regulations in the sale and service of cannabis are decided in real-time.

Paul Defendini, Superintendent, Farmingdale Public Schools, and Nassau County Council of School Superintendents (NCCSS) Southeast Quadrant Leader, speaks to the Town of Oyster Bay Board regarding why OPTING-OUT protects our children and community’s health and safety
